The Maha Kumbh Mela is not only a spiritual and cultural celebration but also a significant economic driver. Set to take place from 13th January 2025 to 26th February 2025, this iconic event is expected to attract around 400 million devotees, with a projected financial impact exceeding INR 2.5 Lakh Cr.
The Mela, one of the world’s largest religious gatherings, is held every 12 years and rotates between four locations based on the celestial alignment of Jupiter, the Sun, and the Moon. These locations are:
Rooted in Hindu mythology, the event represents spiritual purification. However, beyond its spiritual significance, it is also a powerful economic phenomenon.
The Maha Kumbh’s projected spending of INR 2.5 Lakh Cr could contribute approximately 0.8% to India’s GDP, positioning it as a key economic driver.
Capitalizing on the immense economic scale and business potential, a host of FMCG brands too have housed a plethora of services promoting their respective brands and services at the Mela.
Reckitt’s Dettol
FMCG brand Reckitt will seize the opportunity to promote its flagship hygiene brand, Dettol, by supporting nearly 15,000 sanitation workers. The company will train these workers on how to make soaps accessible to them during the Kumbh. Additionally, Reckitt will deploy its hygiene volunteers across all 25 sectors of the Kumbh to provide guidance to pilgrims.
Reliance
Reliance Consumer Products Ltd (RCPL), owned by Mukesh Ambani, has introduced services and products to enhance the pilgrim experience. The company will offer refreshments to pilgrims and set up signage and directional boards to assist them.
The Maha Kumbh 2025 will bring significant economic benefits to Prayagraj and Uttar Pradesh, boosting sectors like tourism, infrastructure, FMCG, consumer goods, and transportation. It will drive growth, supporting further infrastructure development and generating tax revenue for the state government.
ITC
ITC has launched its Mangaldeep Agarbatti and Bingo packaged food brands.
Dabur
Dabur has planned a series of consumer-engaging activities to connect with people during the Maha Kumbh Mela. The brand will also showcase its products, including Dabur Chyawanprash, Dabur Honey, Dabur Red Paste, Dabur Amla Hair Oil, Vatika, Hajmola, and Honitus, at the event.
Coca-Cola, Pepsico
Coca-Cola plans to pair its range of beverages with local foods and flavors at the event. In contrast, its competitor PepsiCo has installed a 30-foot-tall illuminated Mountain Dew bottle and set up more than 500 charging points under its carbonated energy drink brand, Sting.
