Sharing about joining Blinkit, Kapooria said in a LinkedIn post, “Super excited for the journey to build Blinkit alongside Albinder Dhindsa & team!”

Vipin Kapooria’s appointment as the chief financial officer (CFO) of Zomato's Blinkit marks the first time the company has had a full-time designated CFO since Amit Sachdeva, who served as CFO and head of Finance between 2019 and 2022, left the firm.

This move to appoint a full-time CFO comes shortly after Zomato emphasized that Blinkit is its most important business division, with plans for it to eventually surpass the core food delivery business in size.

Previously known as Grofers, the company rebranded to Blinkit in December 2021 to emphasize its focus on quick deliveries, often within 10-30 minutes, a model that sets it apart from traditional e-commerce platforms.

Blinkit operates in various major cities across India and partners with local stores and warehouses to offer a wide range of products, including fresh groceries, household items, and personal care products.

Zomato’s acquisition has aligned Blinkit with Zomato's broader business strategy, particularly in expanding its services beyond food delivery.

Despite facing intense competition from other quick-commerce players including Zepto, BigBasket, and Amazon, Blinkit has been positioning itself as a leader in the rapid grocery delivery market.

Further, Blinkit experienced remarkable growth, with a 2.4X year-on-year increase in revenue, reaching INR 942 Cr in June 2024, compared to INR 384 Cr in June 2023. This growth was highlighted in its financial statements filed by the Zomato Group with the National Stock Exchange (NSE).
